Land Rover Tours
There’s a rich local history tied up in the old family farms that make up Southwind Plantation. Callahan, Reynolds, Owens, and even Rich are all names that still linger in these lands. We’ve figured out the perfect way to enjoy all the history the area has to offer. Come and enjoy some of the most beautiful views southern Georgia has to offer, all from the comfort of one of our Land Rover SUVs, complete with refrigerator, dog boxes, and room for nine people. Sometimes it can take a little convincing, but here at Southwind Plantation, we’re helping by taking some of the rough out of roughing it. Fishing
For guests looking to experience the fishing trip of a lifetime, SouthWind offers both half and full day fishing trips in one of our three stocked ponds full of largemouth bass and eye-popping bream. Also, SouthWind Plantation rests only ten miles from world-famous Lake Seminole. We are proud to offer guided half and full-day fishing trips on the big beautiful lake. Skeet Shooting
Need to practice your aim a little before you go on the big hunt? Skeet shooting allows our guests to work on their marksmanship in a controlled and challenging environment. The popular wobble trap over the pond allows shooters to choose from 3 different presentations, and our 5 stand setup allows customized difficulty for even the most seasoned shooters. And if you’re a real skeet fanatic, staying in the Owner’s Retreat comes with its own private skeet range.
Horseback Riding
It’s time to saddle up friends! Our resident SouthWind Plantation cowboys are excited to offer a truly unique and customized horseback riding experience. We accept all levels of experience, from the advanced riders down to the first-timers. We also offer private lessons by the hour for those who want to get a little refresher before hitting the trails. Rides are available for groups or singles and can last anywhere from 1-3 hours. SouthWind Plantation has over 6,000 acres of beautiful trails for you to test your equine abilities on. If you need to board your horse, we have that available as well. Nature Trails
There’s no better way to take in the beautiful scenery of Southwind than wandering down one of our nature trails. The grounds feature 2 miles of hiking trails with additional foot and bike paths. The unique geography of Southern Georgia is home to various species of wildlife, making it a great spot to envision the birds, fish, and the beautiful outdoors that our scenic plantation entails. Southwind is also surrounded by State Parks and Wildlife preserves, leaving you with no shortage of natural wonders to explore.
Gun Safety Classes
Gun safety is our highest priority. We simply cannot operate without that inherent trust in our guests to make informed and cautious decisions when it comes to handling firearms. That’s why we offer a range of gun safety courses for all levels of experience and encourage everyone to attend. First-timers have to start somewhere, and even the experts can use a few reminders. There’s also classes for specific types of weapons if you want to brush up on a weapon type you’re not familiar with.
Mule-drawn Wagon Rides
Our mule-drawn wagon rides delight all Southwind guests. Meandering through 6,100 acres of unspoiled nature, these rides have a way of slowing down life for a moment and reminding riders to relax and enjoy the present for all it’s worth. We also have horseback riding for you to ride along with the wagon.
Dog Training
The Uplands Camp Package
At SouthWind Plantation, we offer a number of training opportunities to customers who want their bird dogs equipped with the same skills and knowledge found in hunting dogs at SouthWind. SouthWind’s dog trainers offer some of the most proven training techniques, which have produced quality performance in the field. We specialize in training upland field dogs, which will be biddable hunting companions amongst most any dog in their respective field. Our most popular training program is our UPLAND CAMP. The UPLAND CAMP package lasts for 4 months, during which your dog will be trained in a variety of different areas. These areas include obedience, how to force fetch, (if needed) introduction to gunfire, pointing, backing, retrieving, while also being exposed to hundreds of game birds. Upon completion of the UPLAND CAMP, your dog will be well along in the training process. If you need to board your dog, we have that available as well.
