Quail Hunting: A Classic Experience Masterfully Done
If you’re looking for the finest quail hunting experience in the world, SouthWind Plantation is the place for you. SouthWind boasts five thousands acres of wiregrass areas and long leaf pine, which creates the perfect atmosphere to experience quail hunting at its finest. Each of our quail hunting tracts is extensively managed with prescribed burning and food plots to ensure a quality hunting experience for our guests from one year to the next. SouthWind Plantation is professionally managed for bobwhite quail, and every off-season the woods are analyzed to maximize ground cover for even annual growth. SouthWind offers a variety of ways to hunt the elusive bobwhite quail, which include hunting by jeep or on one of our specially designed mule- drawn wagons.
A Southern Style Jeep Quail Hunt
SouthWind’s jeeps are uniquely designed for quail hunting. The jeep hunt offers several different amenities, which provide hunters everything required for a day of hunting. These include: dry storage for shells, rain gear, clothing, and enough room to accommodate six guests. Our jeeps pull a specially designed kennel, which holds up to eight pointing dogs, along with a special kennel for our famous flushing dogs. SouthWind’s bird dogs are breed from some of the finest bloodlines and will be sure to leave guests knowing they have been on the “ultimate hunting experience”.
SouthWind Plantation’s hunting packages gives our guests the option of purchasing either a half-day or full day quail hunt. On all of our quail hunts, SouthWind requires two hunters on the ground per jeep. However, guests are given the opportunity to have multiple riders on the jeep to accommodate groups who want to reminisce with one another. Our professional guides are known for their Southern hospitality and can accommodate any hunter who may have a special need throughout the day. Also, for our guests who are looking to experience quail hunting for the first time, SouthWind is pleased to offer professional shooting instruction upon request from instructor Bob Self. Bob has been a shooting instructor for many years, and continues to shoot professionally today for Caesar Guerini. After an afternoon spent working with Bob, at SouthWind’s state-of-the-art 5-stand clay shooting range, guests will be ready for whatever challenges they may encounter during a day of quail hunting at SouthWind.
Quail hunting season begins on October 1st and continues until March 31st each year. At SouthWind Plantation, safety is our number one priority. Hunters must purchase a shooting preserve license, which is required by federal law. SouthWind’s courteous staff will be glad to help our guests purchase their hunting license upon arrival. Also, as an additional safety feature, we encourage our guests to use over and under shotguns. As a requirement, before guests are allowed to go hunting in the field, they must wear safety orange. If a guest does not have any form of safety orange, we will be glad to furnish you with an orange hunting vest from our Orvis Pro-Shop. Guests who hunt with our courteous guides and witness our champion bird dogs in action are sure to leave SouthWind Plantation knowing they have been able to enjoy a quail hunting experience only offered at a five-star hunting plantation.
